USA (5) – Ankunft bei den Familien und die ersten Tage in Galt und Umgebung

Vor mittlerweile fast einer Woche (Sonntag) kamen wir in Galt an – höchste Zeit für mich, die Zeit seit diesem Punkt zu schildern.
Es geht also fließend nach meinem letzten USA-Eintrag weiter: wir sind um etwa 3 Uhr nachmittags angekommen. (Davor muss ich noch sagen, was mich bei der Fahrt beeindruckhat hat: a) diese riesigen Highways nach San Francisco – viele Kilometer lang gings 10-spurig zu!, b) es gab einen ziemlich großen Windpark (hat mich gleich an die Nordsee erinnert …) – hätte ich Amiland gar nicht zugetraut, c) die Straßenbauweise der Amis: ein kleiner Highway hatte keine Kurven und anstatt irgendwie die Erde anzupassen ging er einfach geradeaus über kleine Hügel und sonstwas … immer nur straight on …)
Unsere Familien haben uns dann ganz herzlich in Galt begrüßt. Jeder hat eine kleine Tüte mit Süßem und kleinem Spielzeug bekommen, die an einem mit Gas gefüllten Luftballon hing, auf dem der Name stand (wohl vor allem, damit wir beim Aussteigen gleich wussten, zu welcher Familie wir gehörten). Als unsere Familie, Simon und ich dann im Auto saßen, hielten wir als erstes bei einer Tankstelle und wir haben die Preise verglichen. Es gab da wohl ein kleines kommunikatives Missverständnis – ich habe verstanden, dass eine Gallon (entspricht 3,8 Liter) 30 Cent kostet. Na gut, es waren wohl 3$, wie ich dann später feststellen musste. Dennoch – mehr als doppelt so billig, als bei uns in Deutschland! Mein erster Eindruck der Familie: super, total nett (ich hatte ja mit allem gerechnet und war froh, dass sie doch mega in Ordnung sind). Als wir dann zu Hause ankamen war ich erstmal total baff: einen riesigen Fernseher (HDTV, an einen BluRay-HDDVD-Combo-Player angeschlossen) sah ich Wohnzimmer, außerdem im “Flur” zwei Computermonitore. In Aharons Zimmer gibbets nen Fernseher nebst Playstation 3 und XBOX360, sein Bruder hat zwei Computer und einen Fernseher im Zimmer. Soweit zur technischen Ausstattung. Ich bezog das Zimmer seines Bruders (war erst für Simon vorgesehen, dort halten sich aber beide Katzen – eine davon ist übrigens sehr fett ^^ – häufig auf — nicht so gut bei einer Katzenhaarallergie). Am späten Nachmittag gings dann noch zu einem Fun Center in Galt, in das auch alle anderen Familien und Austauschpartner nach und nach eintrafen. Dort konnten wir uns erstmal an den verschiedensten Spielgeräten (von “Hüpfburg”-ähnlichen Gebilden bis Tischkicker war alles dabei) austoben, danach wartete ein großes Snackbuffet auf uns, welches die Familien vorbereitet haben (sehr vielseitig: Erdbeeren, Melonen, Trauben, aber auch Chips und – mir nicht schmeckende – weiche amerikanische Cookies).
Am nächsten Tag mussten wir in die Schule und erlebten das erste Mal, was so in einer amerikanischen High School abgeht. Ich glaube, ich werde mich dem School System in einem eigenen Eintrag widmen müssen – es gibt einfach zu viel, was ich dazu sagen könnte. Soviel aber: in der ersten Stunde (fing um 8 an, geht rund 60 min [manche länger, manche kürzer - crazy, ich weiß ...]) hatte Aharon Bandprobe. Wir lernten eine Schulband kennen, die lauter verrückte (nicht negativ gemeint!) Typen beinhaltet, war ziemlich lustig. Danach in einer Reihenfolge, die ich nicht mehr genau kenne: Englisch, Trigonometrie, Chemie, Deutsch und noch ein Fach, welches mir gerade nicht einfällt … Eigentlich war der Unterricht insgesamt todlangweilig und auf einem ziemlich schlappen Niveau, aber wie gesagt, dazu später einmal mehr. Achja, das war übrigens auch noch mein Geburtstag. Habe also von allen Leuten Glückwünsche bekommen etc., sofern ich sie überhaupt gesehen habe. Die meisten Deutschen waren ja mit ihren exchange partners unterwegs weswegen ich kaum welche gesehen habe.
Der Schultag hat also auch “nur” 6 Stunden, und geht trotzdem bis um 3PM. Wir wurden dann um 3 von seiner Mutter abgeholt und machten an dem Tag eigentlich nix mehr groß.
Am nächsten stand gleich der erste Ausflug an, den nur wir Deutschen unternahmen: ein Trip nach Sacramento, der Hauptstadt Kaliforniens. Wir besichtigten das Capitol (wo es ebenfalls ein kommunikatives Missverständnis gab, weswegen eine Gruppe von ungefähr 7 Leuten 20min zu spät zurückkam. ja, unter anderem auch Hannes …), Sutter’s Ford (für unsere Begriffe ziemlich langweilig) und zu guter Letzt hielten wir in der Nähe Old Sacramentos und hatten dann 2,5 Stunden zur freien Verfügung, die wir in Gruppen verbringen konnten. Natürlich gingen wir (= Jul, Oli und ich, aber auch alle anderen Gruppen) erstmal in die nächstbeste Mall und gaben unser Geld aus, ich in “macy*s”. Wir trafen dann auf eine andere Gruppe und schlenderten noch ein bisschen durch Old Sacramento, wo ich ein paar Souvenirs kaufte. Achso, was Old Sacramento überhaupt ist wollt ihr wissen? Es ist eine gut erhaltene Siedlung (edit: laut wikipedia nur nachgebaut ^^) von mindestens 30 Häusern, die alle an die Wild-West-Zeit erinnern, wie wir sie aus Filmen kennen. Weil sie eben aus dieser Zeit stammen. Hört sich langweilig an? War es aber gar nicht. Es gab einige kleine niedliche Shops wo man “Gifts” kaufen konnte und einige Restaurants bzw. Cafés. Der Flair dort ist aber auch einfach toll! :-)
Am Mittwoch hielten wir das erste Mal unsere Referate, Hannes und ich hatten aber bis zur 5. Stunde frei, weil noch tests geschrieben wurden. Die freie Zeit nutzte ich in der ersten Stunde zum Zuhören bei einem anderen Referat und zum plaudern draußen in der Sonne mit den anderen Deutschen. Am Nachmittag gingen wir in eine Mall in Sacramento (aber eine andere als am Dienstag), in der wir – erneut vor allem in macy’s – natürlich fleißig geshoppt haben. Diese Malls sind einfach nur geil! (Und macy’s auch, gibts aber net in Deutschland …)
Donnerstag stand wieder ein trip auf dem Programm: entlang der legendären Highway 49 fahren (jede Menge Goldgräberstätten entlang) und dann am einen Ende aussteigen (Columbia). Dort hatten wir dann 2h freie Zeit, die wir aber nicht so gut verbringen konnten, wie in Sacramento. Obwohl das auch ziemlich sehenswert war: ähnlich wie Old Sacramento, nur noch authentischer. Dort habe ich mir teure, mit Schokolade ummantelte Rosinen gekauft. Waren zwar schon ziemlich lecker – kosteten aber stolze 7.50$ für 125 Gramm. Als wir wieder zurückkamen, liehen wir uns 2 Filme aus (Kill Bill und Crank) und sahen letztern auch noch an, cooler Film!
Gestern mussten wir dann in der Schule wieder unsere Referate halten, Hannes und ich ganze 6 Mal (nächsten Mittwoch übrigens 5x und Freitag wieder 6x). Am Nachmittag sind wir … nirgendwo hingegangen, sondern einfach nur zu Hause rumgehangen und “Kill Bill” geschaut.
Heute haben wir für die Snowboards (gehen am Montag Snowboardfahren, mal sehen wie das für mich wird: stand noch nie auf einem … xD) Maß genommen und Simon ist danach mit Raphael, seiner Austauschpartnerin und einer Freundin von ihr nochmal nach Sacramento shoppen gegangen. Ich bin mit Aharon zu einer Party mitgegangen, die bis etwa 7 Uhr ging.
Jetzt haben wir schon morgen (12:03 AM) und ich muss ins Bett. Bei euch in D stehen wohl schon die ersten wieder auf … Morgen gehen wir in die “Jelly Belly“-Factory (dort, wo diese berühmten Harry-Potter-Bohnen aller Geschmacksrichtungen hergestellt werden) und am Montag gehts eben zum Snowboarden. Dienstag erwartet uns ein Tagesausflug (von 7 bis 7) nach Monterey und am Donnerstag das gleiche nach San Francisco (Sightseeingtour no. 2, geht dann zur Golden Gate Bridge etc.). Montag danach ist wieder schulfrei (Feiertag, welcher? kA) und am Dienstag gibts dann die Farewell-Party, weil es am Mittwoch wieder in Richtung Gufi geht, weswegen wir dann am Donnerstag, 21. Februar, wieder in Deutschland sind.
Bilder editiere ich in den Post morgen hinein, und den Bericht über das US-Schulsystem gibts morgen oder Anfang der nächsten Woche.

Macht ja richtig Laune auf den Film! Hoffe nur, dass die (wenigen?!) Aufnahmen auch ordentlich Potenzial haben und die geile Stimmung widerspiegeln.
“Crank” und “Kill Bill” sind aber erst ab 18, mein lieber Scholli! Aber wenigstens als Blu-Ray oder HD-DVD dann auf nem (Full HD?) Fernseher angeschaut, oder?
